Bill Aalerud is Retiring After 43 Years in the Industry

Columbia thanks Bill Aalerud for his contributions to the firm and profession as he retires after 13 years at Columbia and 43 years in the industry.

During his tenure, Bill has made a significant impact at Columbia. As Executive Vice President, he focused his efforts over the years on strategic planning, marketing and business development, human resources, IT, training/learning programs, Lean practices and continuous improvement. His recent endeavors have included launching a wellness program, oversight on initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at Columbia, developing the DEI strategic plan, and driving Columbia to be a continuous learning organization.

Outside of Columbia, Bill has given back significantly to the profession through teaching, lecturing, and serving as the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts' (AGC MA) past Vice Chair and current Board Chair. He provides critical leadership, guidance, and oversight to help meet strategic planning improvement goals focused on Workforce Development, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Health and Safety, and Sustainability.

We will miss Bill's enthusiasm, presence, and thoughtful contributions, and we are immensely grateful for his years of service and positive influence on Columbia.

We wish Bill all the best as he embarks on this new journey and hope he enjoys every moment skiing, cycling, participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge (where Bill has contributed to a team that raised over $10.2 million for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since 2002), surfing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
