Dedicated to providing the latest in treatment options and care for critically ill patients, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center built a Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NCCU). The 14,000 square foot renovation of an existing recovery suite included an 18-bed NCCU with nine neuro intensive care unit (ICU) beds and nine neuro progressive care unit (PCU) beds for patients requiring critical care.
Completed in an occupied and active area, the renovations were handled in three phases, each requiring detailed coordination and careful sequencing, to minimize impact to patient care. Updates included the upsizing and expansion of the medical gas infrastructure serving the space. Additionally, dedicated ICU rooms with Skytron booms, and PCU rooms with Amico headwalls were also constructed. All rooms were furnished with new Guldman patient lifts.
The support spaces were also modernized and reconfigured to maximize staff collaboration and operational flexibility for the multidisciplinary health care team treating critically ill patients.
