Columbia recently oversaw the modernization of the lobby, reception area, and bar at the Back Bay Hilton in Boston, introducing a host of luxurious amenities to guests of the four-star hotel.
To minimize the impact on guests and staff, sections of the busy space were cordoned off in eight phases. Night shifts were utilized so as not to interfere with daily operations. Speed was imperative and real-time problem-solving a necessity to handle restricted access, design modifications in the field, heavy demolition of the slab floor stone and concrete, noise shutdowns due to the location of meeting spaces and hotel rooms above the lobby, and the fast-rack schedule.
Columbia successfully completed the project, delivering an entirely revitalized guest experience. Now, a large custom metal and stone reception desk and Italian marble flooring welcome guests entering the lobby. A number of comfortable seating and waiting areas are positioned throughout, and a newly expanded bar and lounge area accommodates small and large groups. The inviting space is additionally distinguished with several one-of-a-kind features, including an innovative "fireplace" that is actually a water feature simulating fire.
